The Maine are a band that’s continued to grow in modern rock, building their audience over nearly 20 years through raw emotion and a deep connection with fans. The Arizona-bred five-piece—vocalist John O’Callaghan, guitarists Jared Monaco and Kennedy Brock, bassist Garrett Nickelsen, and drummer Pat Kirch—blend nostalgic energy with unflinching honesty, creating music that lives between late-night reflection and full-volume release.
Their tenth album Joy Next Door explores the tension between who you were and who you’re becoming. Inspired by O’Callaghan’s return to his childhood neighborhood, the record captures moments listeners know well: overthinking at night, searching for clarity, learning to let go, and wanting to feel something real again.
Recorded in sequence to preserve its emotional arc, the album moves from intimate and vulnerable to urgent and explosive. Songs like “Half a Spark” channel the desire to feel young again, while “Palms” is an anthem for taking control. “Die To Fall” captures the rush of letting go and living fully.
